I have many loves, a few of which are staying current within the field of public relations, guiding students and shaping future PR professionals. When a PR student at a four-year institution in North Carolina recently requested an interview with me about my work and my firm for a course paper, I was more than happy to help. If the information I shared was beneficial to one student, I believe it may be beneficial to others as well. For that reason, I’d like to share that interview with you as part of a series of posts I’m calling “Linnie’s Advice to Future Public Relations Professionals.”
Question:
Tell me a little about yourself (Where are you from? What college did you attend? How long have u been in the PR profession?)
Answer:
I am Dr. Linnie Carter, the president and CEO of Linnie Carter & Associates LLC, which is headquartered in Virginia. I am also a vice president at a community college in North Carolina. I am married to a wonderful man, Mr. Kevin Carter.
I was born and raised in Norfolk, Va. Most of my family members still live in the Hampton Roads area.
Following is the list of degrees I have earned:
- 2009, Ph.D. in Community College Leadership, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Va.
- 2000, Accredited in Public Relations (APR), Universal Accreditation Board, Public Relations Society of America
- 1998, M.S. in Mass Communications (Media Management), Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va.
- 1992, B.S. in Mass Communications (Public Relations), Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va.
I have been in the PR profession since I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in 1992. That was 19 years ago.
