Question: How do you ensure that your board members know what your foundation’s mission is? Can you provide an example?
Answer: My foundation board members not only know the foundation’s mission statement, but they developed it as part of an annual retreat. During the retreat, the College president facilitated the development of the foundation’s mission and vision statements. He ensured there was engagement from most board members. The result was a mission statement that received unanimous support when the foundation board voted to adopt it. Also, the mission statement appears at the top of each foundation board meeting agenda and is located prominently on the foundation website.
