Whether we’re talking about brick-and-mortar businesses or virtual businesses, networking is key to successful marketing. In the virtual world, guest blogging is a great way to network and make those connections. Why? Having a guest post on your blog is like introducing your friends to each other or recommending a book to a fellow reader. You know your friends will get along, and they trust your recommendation. If you accept a guest blogger on your site, you are essentially recommending that person’s site to your readership.
Guest blogging works both ways. Jonathan Morrow at http://www.copyblogger.com cites blogging on someone else’s site as a critical piece to increasing traffic on your blog. As Darren Rowse at www.problogger.net says, through guest blogging, everyone wins. Here, Rowse explains how:
- The guest blogger wins by reaching a new audience.
- The blog owner wins by bringing a fresh perspective to the blog and new readers to the site.
- The reader wins by hearing a different perspective.
How can you go wrong? Well, Mike Nguyen explains at eblogcamp.com that inviting a guest to your blog is a bit like hosting a party while your house is a mess. If your blog and your site aren’t ready, Nguyen cautions, guest blogging may hurt rather than help your site. It all begins, he says, with content – great content, and lots of it.
I am looking for guest bloggers. Are you game? Do you have something to share related to diversity, entrepreneurship, fundraising, leadership, marketing, public relations and/or social media? Let me know!
How has guest blogging affected your business? How did you find guest bloggers?
